P4P IS GOING VIRTUAL FOR 2020!
P4P committee has determined that for the health and safety of our community, it’s best and safest for us to fundraise and celebrate online only this year. We wish that we could be together in person (see above - look at how much fun we had in 2019!), but now that the Baltimore Running Festival will be a virtual event, we are excited about the opportunity for everyone to “run at your own place” in October!
CAN YOU GIVE ME THE BASICS, PLEASE?
Pacing for Parkinson’s (P4P) brings people together to fundraise and support the research, clinical, and educational missions of the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center and Johns Hopkins Medicine. While we typically get together at the Baltimore Running Festival to celebrate our fundraising accomplishments, this year we’re encouraging everyone to “race at your own place.” P4P is hosting a week of virtual events from Saturday, October 10th - Saturday, October 17th to bring the community “together” and continue our fundraising mission. That week, P4P will encourage our team members to “move and shake” wherever you are and in whatever format works for you (walk, run, ride a bike, paddle board, hopscotch--anything is fair game!) and report your distances (large and small) to P4P. Whether you do a lap inside your house or a triathlon, any distance will count as P4P virtually tries to cross the state of Maryland in the name of finding a cure! Sign up to join us today!
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO “GO VIRTUAL”?
Mark your calendars! We will be celebrating Pacing for Parkinson’s virtually over the course of one week, Saturday, October 10, through Saturday, October 17. Here is our current schedule of events for P4P Week (with more details to be added as we approach October):

HOW DO I JOIN P4P 2020 NOW?
Sign up here! We welcome all of our participants to join P4P as virtual participants. This is a great option because you can set whatever goals are right for you. Want to run a marathon on your own? Awesome! Is walking a few laps around your kitchen more your style? Fantastic! You decide and participate on your own terms, safely, from your own home, neighborhood, or wherever.
WHY SHOULD I STILL JOIN?
In 2020, as always, there are a lot of causes competing for attention, but Parkinson’s disease is not going away and we must still work to find a cure. According to the Parkinson’s Foundation, nearly one million people are living with Parkinson's disease (PD) in the U.S., which is more than the combined number of people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and Lou Gehrig's disease. Approximately 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with PD each year. Funds raised by Pacing for Parkinson’s support important research and education programs at the Johns Hopkins Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center. Read more here about where the money goes.
This year, there is no fundraising minimum! We ask that our participants do what they can to raise funds to support the research, clinical, and educational missions of the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center and Johns Hopkins Medicine. To aid these efforts, we've developed a new fundraiser's toolkit. But, we know that times are tough and want you to participate no matter how much you are able to raise to support our cause.
IS THERE A FUNDRAISING MINIMUM THIS YEAR?
Nope! In typical years we require a fundraising minimum of $100 (the lowest of any charity team at the Baltimore Running Festival) to cover t-shirts and race day costs. Because our P4P t-shirts are available for purchase this year (see below) and there is no in-person race day, we have done away with our fundraising minimum for 2020! We do still encourage our participants to raise as much as they can, but now there's no pressure to reach a specific amount.
WHY SHOULD I REPORT MY DISTANCE TO YOU AND HOW DO I DO IT?
The P4P Committee thought it would be fun to see how many miles our 2020 team covers during P4P Week (Saturday, October 10 - Saturday, October 17)! How many times together can we cross the state of Maryland? How far can we go, in our various ways, together/apart, while we fight for a cure for Parkinson’s Disease?
You can report your distances beginning on October 10 using this Google Form: https://forms.gle/4TVBTLjkr5hypLjS9
You can report your distances for that week all at once or each time you move. It’s up to you!
We’ll share the total distance covered by the P4P team at our afterparty on Saturday, October 17 at 1pm. Check back for Zoom details.
IS THERE A 2020 P4P T-SHIRT?
What better way to feel like you’re part of a team than to have a t-shirt?! P4P DOES have a 2020 t-shirt, for a limited time only. This year is a little different in that shirts are available for purchase. We had to go this direction because of a variety of challenges in getting our shirts the way we do in normal years. We appreciate your understanding. Purchase your shirt for only $20 any time from now until September 23!!
WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO BUY A SHIRT BUT STILL WANT TO REP MY P4P PRIDE?
It's totally fine if you don't want to buy a shirt! You can still show your P4P pride by downloading our special 2020 "Race at Your Own Place" bib. The race bib is available for download here, in a variety of different formats and sizes!
WHAT ABOUT SPONSORS?
We are still looking for 2020 P4P sponsors! If you’re interested in sponsoring, you can check out our sponsorship packet here and email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are so grateful to our current 2020 sponsors, NuStar, Giant, and Amneal.
WHAT IF I WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VIRTUAL BRF?
If you’d like to participate at the virtual Baltimore Running Festival on your own, you are welcome to do so and can use the code P4P20 for $20 off of any race.
